Our Expos Coaches

Bill Sampen (16U)

Bill was drafted in the 12th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1985 MLB draft. Bill pitched 10 years professionally including 5 seasons at the Major League level with the Montreal Expos, Kansas City Royals, and California Angels. In 1990 Bill was voted to the Baseball Digest All-Rookie Team. He has 10 years of experience as varsity head baseball coach at the high school level.

David Brewer (16U)

David is an alumni of Wabash College, where he played varsity Baseball and Football. He also has an MBA from St. Ambrose University, where he was an Offensive Live Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coach for 3 years. David returned to Wabash College as an Offensive Line Coach for 5 years. He served as an Assistant Coach with the Indiana Outlaws Travel Baseball Club. David has a son who now plays baseball for Wabash College and a daughter in high school that plays soccer for Brownsburg High School and West Side United.

Derek Hankins (15U)

Derek was the 10th round selection of the Pittsburg Pirates in 2004 out of the University of Memphis, where he still holds the single season strikeout record. His professional playing career included a rise to the AAA level as well as stints in the Arizona Fall League, Venezuealan and Dominican Winter Leagues as well as Korea.

Nick Spence (15U)

Nick is a 2001 graduate from Brownsburg HS. He continued his baseball career at Olney Central College, Danville Community College, and ended at Indiana University Southeast. He began his coaching career at Brownsburg HS and ended up getting the opportunity to coach college baseball at Clarendon College (Texas) and Indiana Tech University. He is the current varsity pitching coach at Avon HS.

Isaac Sampen (14U)

After being named as an Indiana All-Stater, Isaac originally committed to play baseball at West Virginia of the Big 12 Conference. Personal matters led Isaac to Parkland Community College where he became a Junior College All-American after leading the nation in slugging percentage. Isaac then continued to Eastern Illinois University as a two-way player, but played only a few games before injuries ended his playing career.

Leo Tobasco (14U)

Leo graduated from Brownsburg High School in 2012 after only making 3 errors in his high school career. He took an academic scholarship to IU and played two years of club ball under the legendary IU coach, Bob Morgan. Leo served as an assistant for last years 13u team and is an infield instructor at Samp's Hack Shack.

Tony Meyer (13U)

Tony Meyer comes from a baseball rich family and has a vast amount of both playing and coaching experience.
• Played collegiately at Wabash College 88-92
• '94 Head Scout USA Jr Pan Am team (Gold Medal winners)
• 95-01 Asst Coach at DePauw University (1999 interim Head Coach)
• 2016 Indiana Elite All stars head coach 1A and 2A
